40th NW Filmmakers’ Fest Highlights: The SHORTS III program

Join us this Sunday, November 10th at 7pm for the SHORTS III presentation at the 40th Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival at our Whitsell Auditorium, located in the Portland Art Museum (1219 SW Park Avenue).  This lively program of narrative, documentary, experimental, and animated shorts from across the Northwest region screens twice more during the Festival at McMenamins’ Mission Theater.

Here’s what to expect from this year’s SHORTS III presentation:

THE INNOVATOR
DIRECTOR: TRISTAN STOCH – (PORTLAND)
(DOC) Mike Friton is a shoe designer, weaver, and paper sculptor.

THE SIX IS SILENT
DIRECTOR: SARAH JANE LAPP – (SEATTLE)
(ANI) This animation is inspired by the song by SkyJelly, which is inspired by the short story, now a film, by James Cowan.

PORTLAND MEADOWS
DIRECTOR: VANESSA RENWICK – (PORTLAND)
(DOC) This rhythmic portrait explores Portland’s horse race track.

BY THE SALISH SEA
DIRECTOR: SERGE GREGORY – (SEATTLE)
(NAR) On the Northwest coast in the early 19th century, a Salish native’s dream quest is disturbed by the arrival of a tall ship.

DIRECTOR: LAWRENCE JOHNSON – (PORTLAND)
(EXP) Repetition and unfulfilled anticipation fuel this abstract experiment with animated objects.

DIRECTOR: AMANDA THOMSON – (VANCOUVER, BC)
(EXP) A woman’s voice sketches out an enigmatic romance while the camera gets lost in the patterns of sunlight on windswept leaves and water.

DIRECTOR: ANNA SANDILANDS, EWAN MCNICOL – (SEATTLE)
(DOC) Peter Davenport’s life work is running the National UFO Reporting Center.

SHORTS III screens Sunday, November 10 at 7pm in our Whitsell Auditorium (located in the Portland Art Museum) as part of the 40th Northwest Filmmakers’ Festival in our Whitsell Auditorium (located in the Portland Art Museum).  It also screens on Wednesday, November 13 at 8:45pm and Saturday, November 16 at 7pm at McMenamins’ Mission Theater (1624 NW Glisan).
