Reel Music 32: Shoegaze Movement Gets Its Due in BEAUTIFUL NOISE

“Although it’s one of the most radical and influential movements in contemporary music, having given birth to some of the most brilliant bands of the last 30 years and is widely respected by music biz heavyweights, no one has ever attempted to documents its history for the sake of the big screen.

Eric Green and Sarah Ogletree are here to remedy this oversight, assembling 20 years of research, archival material and and precious interviews in a documentary goldmine for the noise guitar fanatics and everyone who loves music innovation, dreamy pop songs and rapturous guitar riffs.

The film features rare interviews with Jim Reid of Jesus and Mary Chain, Robin Guthrie of the Cocteau Twins, Robert Smith of the Cure, Trent Reznor of the Nine Inch Nails, Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins and, most importantly, Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine. The real achievement of “Beautiful Noise” though is the fact that it makes you want to race home and discover the music it’s about, losing yourself in a sublime electro trip.” – Athens International Film Festival (90 mins.)
