The 50 Foot Challenge: A 50th Birthday Celebration for Super 8

This Spring, the Northwest Film Center’s Equipment Room asked filmmakers to join us in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Super 8. We put out a call for submissions for The 50 Foot Challenge, a June 12th screening of Super 8 films at the School of Film. Entrants were asked to make a film using a single roll of Super 8 film and only in-camera edits. In the spirit of Super 8’s simplicity, participants shot in sequence and made no edits after the roll of film passed through the camera.
We will screen the submitted films on Friday, June 12, 7pm at Northwest Film Center School of Film, 934 SW Salmon St. This public screening will be followed by a birthday party featuring music and images from 1965, the year of Super 8’s birth. Admission is $5. In the spirit of celebration, there will be a complimentary Super 8 birthday cake on hand, as well as drinks available for purchase.

Sponsored by Kodak and Lightpress.

Participating filmmakers include:
Alicia J. Rose, David Cress, Zach Weintraub, Vanessa Renwick, Matt Schulte, Hannah Piper Burns, Ben Popp, Julie Keefe, Enie Vaisburd, Pam Minty, The Whiteman Brothers, Carl Diehl, Howard Mitchell, Nathan Williams, Sam Pirnak, Sika Stanton, Becky Meiers, Frances Fagan, Miles Sprietsma, and Stephanie Hough.
