Friday Film Club: IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE

IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE 2

A tiny, sparsely populated slice of early-1960s Hong Kong forms the backdrop for Wong’s hyper-stylish yet thorny dissection of the politics of infidelity and the bonds formed through modern urban malaise. Hong Kong superstars Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung feature as star-crossed neighbors-turned-lovers whose spouses have a secret tryst; soon, they forge their own connection, rooted in a hot-house of longing. Gloriously lensed by the inspired team of Christopher Doyle (CHUNGKING EXPRESS, THE LIMITS OF CONTROL) and Mark Lee Ping Bin (THE PUPPETMASTER, FLOWERS OF SHANGHAI), Wong’s small-scale, contemplative drama is “a vertiginous, obsessive mood piece.”—Kevin B. Lee. In Cantonese and French with English subtitles.

IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE screens Friday, October 16 at 5:30pm in our Whitsell Auditorium (located in the Portland Art Museum). The film is showing as part of our new Friday Film Club.

Tickets are available online or at the door.
